Lakers Remain Committed To Moving Future First Round Picks For 'Right Deal'

The Los Angeles Lakers continue to linger in the playoff chase despite the injury to Anthony Davis, mainly due to the excellent play of LeBron James.

The question surrounding the Lakers largely remains unchanged from the offseason when they pursued trade scenarios involving Russell Westbrook and their first round picks in 2027 and 2029.

The Lakers continue to be open to that trade structure, but there doesn't appear to be an urgency for them to find one if it doesn't make a meaningful difference.

"I think the big question that will be pertinent to the LeBron James' view of the now versus the future is are the Lakers actually committed to moving those picks if the right deal occurs?" said Dave McMenamin on the Brian Windhorst podcast. "From the information I have, they are. But they will not do a deal now if they don't feel like it's the right deal."

Earlier in the podcast, Windhorst suggested his sense is that James has no interest in forcing his way off the Lakers this offseason should they not upgrade the roster around him but he is merely applying pressure to make the front office and ownership uncomfortable until they take action.

This franchise has no idea what it is doing. It seems as if their rhetoric changes by the day.

Another fake Lakers report to get the clicks started for the week… Next week we will hear about the lakers targeting players that become trade eligible on 15 January.

Good to know that LeBron isn't going to force himself off the Lakers this season, you know, given that they can't legally trade him anyway due to the extension. Perhaps we can also report that LeBron will also not start breathing water.

I think when you listen to the actual podcasts, they're just talking Lakers like everyone does, considering their realistic options, etc. Then as you say these headlines and stories get generated on ESPN or wherever for the clicks.

(I guess it's a RealGM headline but I won't hate on them since this is their forum and they need to pay the bills. )

I have no issue with the post on RealGM, they are just posting what’s been reported by the ESPN. My issue is with the ESPN “insiders” who flip flop every week or two. They talk about different scenarios on their podcast but report on it as if it’s factual information.

I don't disagree, although I feel like sometimes if I actually listen to the podcast, you can tell they're just discussing and not trying to sensationalize or make anything up. But you can pull a quote from it and write a story around it that suddenly makes it seem like a breaking development.

In this case the headline was from RealGM, but often times it's just ESPN quoting itself to make a story for the website.

There really isn't a point unless it helps them for next season. People get really excited about their 5-game winning streak. Well, they went 1-5 in their previous 6 games. After their loss tonight they are 6-6 over their last 12 games. Sacramento has the best record of any team they beat in that span. They are currently in 12th place in the West... and only 11 teams in the West started out the season hoping to make the playoffs. They are just bad. They also have the 2nd toughest remaining schedule in the West.
