The Clippers had an Allstar option at point guard in SGA and traded him for Paul George when they could've probably signed PG in free agency and still signed Kawhi without making that trade. Now Kawhi is begging for the same players he had in Toronto where if he was serious about his career he'd still have his original ACL and multiple championships by way of the Raptors. NBA GM's please stop taking players seriously on roster moves. It's your job not there's
Eh, no need for the hindsight stuff and bad history to make your point. SGA was a kind of promising rookie when they traded him for an all-NBA two-way wing just entering his prime, absolutely no one would’ve put even money on SGA definitely becoming an all-NBA guy himself at that time, he’s had one of the best developments of all time in the last 4 years. Also George was signed for two more years when the Clips traded for him, so unless you wanted them to wait two years—AND completely gut their roster to have enough space for veteran maxes for both him and Kawhi—then no they couldn’t have ‘just signed him’ up. Also PG had expressed public interest in joining the Lakers before that and it’s not like the Clippers we’re the only team that could possibly have ever traded for him (he’ll the Thunder snuck in and traded for him a few years before because teams were scared he’d leave for LA).
The Clippers did give up a ton to make Kawhi happy and ensure him he’d have a sidekick, and now he has to live with those consequences. Another super team that finds a harder road than expected. But no need to make the PG trade some ridiculous decision or tell Kawhi that his knee problems are his fault or whatever.
