Nick Nurse's Future With Raptors Uncertain As Contract Set To Expire After Next Season

Nick Nurse has an uncertain future as head coach of the Toronto Raptors as he will be entering the final season of his current contract this offseason.
Nurse previously signed a contract extension worth $8 million per season that expires after 23-24.
Head coaches typically avoid entering the final year of their contract as it creates a lame duck situation.
Shams Charania of The Athletic also reports that some of the frustration with Toronto's play has been directed at Nurse.

This is nonsense. Nurse is committed to Toronto and the Raptors, and vice-versa. He's the coach of the Canadian men's national team and his fingerprints are all over the team. Plus, he and Masai have a strong professional dynamic. Shams is just stirring the pot with this one.

100% Agree.

Whoever is Shams' source is to blame -- neither he nor Woj make up their own storylines, both legit reporters
This almost surely came from someone in the organization or elsewhere in the league but with relationships in Toronto:
"There’s been frustration throughout the roster and staff with the team’s play at points of this season, and that has been directed toward Nurse at times too, according to sources."
Doesn't mean that person is correct, but your beef isn't with Shams

There is no question Nurse is going to be fired. The only question is if they will wait until the offseason. The team is in disarray in the locker room. There is no leadership and Scottie has digressed in his development. Nick has ruffled a few feathers in the organization. They have been grooming Earl Watson to take over.

Man, Scottie has been great in January and Watson ain't even the lead assistant, it's Adrian Griffin. I believe there'll be some changes in Toronto but IMHO a major roster overhaul is more likely that having Nurse fired.

I wouldn't say Nurse's job would be in danger but they certainly shouldn't automatically give him extension this offseason. No reason why Raptors shouldn't see how rest of the season and next season play out and decide. He's not the cause but he's certainly part of the problem that is plaguing this team right now. I mean, if you see fit to routinely play your main guys 40+ minutes and still end up losing games, then something's obviously wrong with what you are doing.

Well this is a stupid article if I ever saw one. The Raptors usually wait until their coach or GM's contract expires and then they resign him. They did this same thing with Masai and Nurse on their last contracts
