Mavs Not Done Trading; Could Move Tim Hardaway Jr, Christian Wood

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Feb 6, 2023 2:17 pm

The Dallas Mavericks have traded for Kyrie Irving, but they aren't done dealing after that move. Dallas is still looking for additional trades to fortify their roster around Luka Doncic and the newly acquired Irving.

Tim Hardaway Jr. is one player Dallas was involved in various trade discussions on before making the Irving deal. Hardaway is owed $53.7 million through the 2024-25 season. His contract for this year is $19.6 million, which is large enough to help the Mavs bring back a $20 million-plus player in a trade.

The Mavericks have also talked various trades involving Christian Wood. Wood is playing out the final season of his deal for $14.3 million this season. Dallas can extend Wood for four years at nearly $77 million, but talks between the big man and the Mavs haven't approached that sort of deal in terms of years or salary.

Other than Ben Simmons, Hardaway could be one of the hardest contracts to move and to expect something better in return is wishful Cuban thinking.

Mavs are probably banking on trading Wood and THJ together. Wood has been playing well since starting, so someone may be willing to pay him.

Would be nice if Dallas could retain Wood. He would be a decent #3 option.

Mavs should offer Wood the max right now. He’s worth it. He’ll get paid more this off-season.

They should trade THJ to the Jazz for Conley and a FRP.

Jazz want picks and young talent. How on earth does this deal make sense for them?

I agree. Mavs would have to attach a FRP and only get Conley back. But I don’t think Mavs would target Conley anyway.
