Lakers Were Considering Waiving Russell Westbrook If Not Traded As Situation Grew 'Toxic'

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Feb 9, 2023 9:36 pm

The situation between Russell Westbrook and the Los Angeles Lakers had become "toxic" in recent weeks, sources tell Sam Amick and Jovan Buha of The Athletic

There was a strong sense from the coaching staff that the Lakers might have to resort to waiving Westbrook if he was not traded at the deadline. The Lakers managed to trade Westbrook to the Utah Jazz on the eve of the trade deadline in a move that improves their depth. Westbrook will be bought out and he and the Los Angeles Clippers and Miami Heat have mutual interest

Coaches had grown frustrated with Westbrook's recent behavior and he was upset with being openly mentioned in trade discussions.

Westbrook walked off the floor of Tuesday's game in the second quarter slowly and demonstratively, which led to a confrontation with Darvin Ham at halftime.

They did Russ wrong. He has every rite to be pissed and mad and do what he did! Frankly he held it together quite admirably. Lost alot of respect for the king, AD over how they treated Russ. Ham was always a bum he should be fired.

Meanwhile Russ had 27 points off the bench that game while AD had a whopping 13 points. AD played and acted like he was the one being shopped around. He had a whopping 23 points against the Bucks with no LeBron or Russ. He should have had 40+ to show people they got it wrong for not picking him as an all-star. Instead, his play is basically proving their point. No heart, no drive and still insists on taking 3s and bringing the ball up at times.

Yes, prior to his injury he finally stared having a good stretch of games but now he's back to playing the crap he played last year. He needs to be consistently getting 30+ (and 40+ when LBJ is out) with 12+ boards all while playing solid defense the entire time he's out there. He just hasn't done that since their championship imo.

30+ and 40 points every game when lebron isnt playing? thats not happening. why do you expect that of him. he injury prone and just taking it slowly. he wants to make it to the playoffs or play in at 100 percent. im not a laker fan but if or when they lose again i want lebron to just admit he's the problem by adding all these players to the team just to win a championship so he can make even more false and fraudulent claims of being the goat. i wont speak on the lakers until ive seen at least 15 games of the new team playing together to see if its just bron cant lead a team anymore. its not his skills. he's very talented. but his defense and forces players to play his style is wearing thin on them. these are all young kids who idolized him or watched him play growing up wanted to be great players themselves. theyve already won there ring and davis looks like he's satisfied with that. lebron is the only one playing with a chip on his shoulders because of his ego to out do the greatest player of all time. i see nothing d'angelo russell can do or malik beasley when there making a name for themselves and lebron is forcing them to change up there game to fit his.

we see how westbrook turned out. a player who needs the ball. what makes you think d'angelo will buy in full time. even schroder is trying to pass more and fit in. he's more of a vet now so he might accept it since he's prob still salty over his contact from the previous time he played in la. players like austin reeves is perfect for lebron because he's a pure shooter and really doesn't try to do much else. but beasley and dlo definitely want a serious role with the team. and then you have players like rui hachimura who also want a big role and are all young. same as mo bamba who has been on a bad team his whole career and thrown into the fire. how will he respond to that. all these players will feel slighted when they realize there role is to stand and shoot and i see dlo not excepting it the most because he established himself alot since he was last a laker. dont be suprised if he's a problem moving forward. he will shut up if there winning but when the loses pile up he will let it be known

Definitely sounds like a LeBron hater. You can hate all you want, but in the end he made every team he played for better. His first year the Lakers were in 4th seed at Christmas and were destroying the Warriors that game prior to getting hurt. Without him they didn't even make the playoffs. Kyrie and the Cavs not only didn't make one playoff, they got 3 #1 picks, that's how bad they were prior to him returning. He carried a team with Mo Will and Big Z to the finals.

Hes always been a willing passer and made it to the Finals with every type of team and just about every type of Robin possible. Problem now is at his age, he should be a Robin. Unfortunately, AD is no Batman. No heart since the championship and hasn't been working on his game during the off season. Takes 3s when he shot 18% last season and wastes energy taking the ball up the court. He needs to sit inside 20 feet and go to work in the post or pick and roll, but strong roll, no fade or out. That's it, he would be unstoppable.

The team makeup is also horrible. Management sucks and brought in the wrong players the last 2 seasons to surround LBJ and AD. Playing AD at the center also doesn't work. He doesn't like it and it shows in his game. This is another reason they were more successful when Howard and McGee were on the team and actually playing.

As for the goat argument, he's absolutely in there. Most points ever, both in the season and playoffs. Kobe played 20 seasons, too and isn't close. MJ and Kobe couldn't win anything without Phil Jackson. Hell, they couldn't even make a Finals without Phil. Based on most rings, it's Bill Russell and it isn't even close. Based on all around skill, he's definitely in the conversation. Top scorer, top 5 in assists and top 10 in rebounds.

Why should AD score 30, because he's supposed to score that much. He complained and is upset he didn't get in the all star game, that's what it takes to get there. He said he was upset because they were losing to OKC. Well his 13 point effort was the main reason they lost.
