Nets Were Offered Four First Round Picks By Unnamed Team For Mikal Bridges

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Feb 10, 2023 3:59 am

The Brooklyn Nets received considerable trade interest in Mikal Bridges after acquiring him as part of the Kevin Durant trade, but decided to keep him at the deadline.

Bridges is on the first year of a four-year, $90 million extension he signed with the Phoenix Suns before the 21-22 season.

"I know of one team, and I've confirmed this," said Zach Lowe on his podcast. "I know of one team who offered four first round picks for Mikal Bridges.

"Now, I know of at least three first round picks. I think the fourth one may have had some protections or something, but I'm pretty sure that was a thing."

Probably Daryl Morey.

Bridges is a much better Trevor Ariza. Ane Ariza was the difference between not winning a championship in Houston.

Ariza was about as overrated as a player can be. I don't think that's a flattering (or accurate) comparison. I also don't think HOU gets a championship with or without him. Crowder is a better comp for Ariza.

I know which team offered four 1sts. The Fantasyland Gnomes

So if I was GM of the Nets, and I just traded a future HOF superstar in Kevin Durant, wouldn’t it help me to leak a story about how valuable a return I got?

Ariza was a fine role player, Bridges with higher usage is a borderline all star. So yeah...

They're both glue guys. Neither is a 1 or 2 option on a championship roster.

They're both athletic small forwards who were very reliable and durable in their prime. The comparison is obvious, accept for in comment sections on the internet.

Or, it does make a ton of logical sense it was the Knicks.

A team that has tons of low value firsts that are so protected, no one cares much about them.

A team trying to compete.

A team that just acquired one former Nova player, and they’d then have a 3rd from the same national title team and they’d all be super happy singing kumbaya together.

The Grizzlies were supposedly trying to get him. They'd be my guess. They have the picks to trade & the junk contracts to attach. NOLA is also a possibility, as they have an overabundance of picks. Mikal would have fit seamlessly on either team.

Makes sense. Reports leaked that they offered 3 picks for OG. But their 1st rd picks are protected and turn into 2nd rounders.

These pick laden offers will look a lot more interesting after the ping pong balls have been selected, and by then the Nets may have an idea whether they can build something from they've got and scrap a tear down.

Only team besides the Knicks I could see splurging picks on bridges would be OKC and their insane stash of picks. But, this just feels like a Knicks type of move.

Exactly this.

There's way too many good new pieces in BRK right now to assume a rebuild is necessary. Bridges can always be traded down the line if it makes sense, even if it's not quite for four #'1s.

The key here is that Joe Tsai has been pretty firm since he bought the team that he wants to field a good team that will fill seats. The Nets can probably do that right now and still have lots of flexibility with their new surplus of draft assets.

They have zero motivation to be bad because none of their picks are their own. With no reward for losing, they will continue to put the best possible team on the floor. And yes, they have a lot of good pieces to work with.
