Magic, Michael Carter-Williams Agree To Two-Year Deal

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Feb 26, 2023 7:28 pm

After a year away, veteran guard Michael Carter-Williams is making a return to the NBA, and it's in a place he's familiar with. Carter-Williams has agreed to a two-year deal with the Orlando Magic. Carter-Williams' contract will cover the rest of this season, with Orlando holding a team option for next season.

Carter-Williams last played in the NBA during the 2020-21 season with the Magic. He averaged 8.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 25.8 minutes over 31 games (25 starts).

The 2014 Rookie of the Year missed last season while recovering from offseason surgery on his left ankle. The Magic waived Carter-Williams at the 2022 trade deadline, when they needed to clear roster spots for deadline maneuvering.

Bitadze and now bringing this guy back? Magic need to start streamlining their team towards Banchero and Wagner and start questioning if Mosely and the rest of the roster is even capable of taking the team forwards.

They're two back end of the rotation players... both have TO's at the end of the season. How dare a tanking team sign players that don't make them better.

The Magic are simply incompetent. They have no idea how to play basketball.

You have a log jam of guards. Why on earth would you need Michael Carter-Williams? You can't even find minutes for Suggs.

Because John Hammond is an idiot who can only hold his hat on drafting Giannis and the “Fear the Deer” year. Oh and I guess he was allegedly instrumental in helping Dumars in Detroit

Idk if you know how to count, but they have 4 guards. 5 if you count Caleb Houstan as a guard. MCW as a 5th guard is better than ok

Well damn. I wouldn't go that far. The roster is pretty good right now.

I'm not a huge Magic front office supporter, but this is actually very smart. Signing guys to deals with team options means you can include them in draft day trades and the acquiring team can then decline the options if they want to. Depending on the guarantee dates, they might even be useable during free agency as trade chips as well.

There’s a lot of young talent but the roster construction looks like he’s just figuring things out as he goes along.

Hard to believe that he was ROY and that Hinkie (for all of the mistakes he made as GM) was able to steal a high first rounder for him.

They released RJ Hampton to sign Carter-Williams. Is that more than a lateral move? (No sarcasm intended)

I feel like the Suns or Bucks could have used him.
