Jacque Vaughn Says Ben Simmons Is Probably Out For Season

Brooklyn Nets forward Ben Simmons was recently diagnosed with a nerve impingement in his back. That injury will keep him out indefinitely, but Nets coach Jacque Vaughn is being realistic about Simmons' timeline to return.

“For me as a coach, there’s some things that I can control, some things that I can’t control,” Vaughn said. “What I can’t control is the impingement. What I can control is getting this group ready to play. And then in all honesty, the realism that he’s probably not going to join us for the rest of the year ... certainty will come once he continues to be looked at by specialists.”

After missing all of last season due to a holdout with the Philadelphia 76ers and subsequent back injury, Simmons appeared in 42 games for the Nets this season. He averaged career-lows across the board with 6.9 points, 6.3 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game.

I remember I wanted him to play all 82 games in 2017-18 (when he played 81 games) or 2018-19 (when he played 79 games), and I heard about him having to miss a game because of back stiffness. And I thought it was a bad sign that he had back stiffness at such a young age....

Nerve impingement is diagnosed through an EMG. It’s an objective test that doesn’t rely in the patient’s input or honesty. So he almost certainly has some impingement in a nerve in his back. It could be minor or it could be quite painful. Who knows.

I cant believe people are seriously questioning his
back injury.. Part of the reason he has been so bad is he has had a serious back injury confidence and not playing as well obviously but the back injury is a major component and is likely career threatning as can he get back to his best which included being one if not the best defender in the league.. I highly doubt it I think he is done..

Surely no one is left believing this.
Even players are keeping silent, which speaks volumes.
U could tell by his play this year he didn't want to be out there.
Every fan would be okay with someone losing their love for the game.
But my man Ben is receiving a MAX salary while pulling this nonsense.

That's what happens when a player shows no love for the game and has a prior history of faking injuries. And he was never one of the the best players in the league. He was at one time extremely overrated and still wasn't one of the best.
