The NBA set new records in total and average attendance, percentage of capacity, and number of sellouts this season, the league announced.

The league recorded 791 sellouts this year, up from the previous record of 760 set during the 2018-19 season.

Games were also filled at an all-time high of 97% capacity.

The league registered a total attendance of 22,234,502 this season. It was also the first time that teams collectively averaged over 18,000 fans per game.

Talk about working the books, I noticed this year when I would check a box score the attendance is always listed at the bottom and almost every time it would say 95% or more capacity. Just from Sunday’s game the Blazers vs Warriors, I doubt there were 5000 fans but the attendance record was as 19,731 when the arena capacity is 19,441, they listed it as if it were a packed playoff game and it was a 56 point loss! Mavs vs Spurs 20,141 listed in attendance capacity is 19,200, so they’re saying 1000 people had standing room only tickets for 2 tanking teams at noon on Easter Sunday in Texas? Bulls vs Pistons is listed at 21,530 with a capacity of 20,917, these are 3 examples from one day, they’ve been doing this all season to inflate team values and gain more leverage in any future TV deals.

When the tickets are sold to within I believe seven percent of the total, the team can purchase back the rest and declare a sellout. Also if they are season ticket seats, those seats are actually sold already even if the holder doesn’t attend.

That said I do believe that there was an increase in both counts and I put it to parity.

When your team is still involved and in the hint to late in the season - as was the case all over - people buy tickets to see the games.
