Ja Morant was allegedly spotted on an Instagram Live video holding a gun. Morant appeared to be in a car with friends when he held up a gun while the video was streaming live.

Morant missed nine games in early- to mid-March after brandishing a gun in a video filmed in a Denver area nightclub. Morant was ultimately suspended for eight games total by NBA, while being given credit for the first five games he sat out.

In an interview with ESPN after being suspended, Morant said he made a "terrible mistake" and promised to be accountable for his actions moving forward.

“It’s not who I am,” Morant said. “I don’t condone any type of violence but I take full responsibility for my actions. I made a bad mistake, and I can see that image I painted over myself with my recent mistakes, but in the future, I’ll make sure everybody knows who Ja really is, and what I’m about and change this narrative.”

Where was he? Is he a convicted felon or on any drugs or psychiatric care that would make it illegal to possess a gun? Technically he's commiting a felony by concealing it but maybe he has his permit.

It’s his constitutional right to own a gun. Open carry depends on what state he’s in. It’s not legal in every state.

If it was a white dude like JJ Reddick or Kyle Korver showing off his gun this would be a non-story.

Tennessee and Mississippi are open carry states just want to make sure I am providing context.

I think if they're going hunting, then it's different. Even someone like LBJ could go hunting, but it would definitely limit his endorsement deal potential when it comes to things like eco friendly products and foods. Randomly brandishing a gun in public, however, would always be frowned upon.

Steve Kerr and Greg Popovich will find a way to blame Trump or Republicans for this man carrying out his constitutional rights.

Concealing a weapon has nothing to do with open carry. Unless you have a permit that thing would have to be unloaded with the magazine seperated in a case.

Dude. This isn’t a constitutional rights issue. If Ja legally owns that weapon then it’s a bad look for every legal possessor by indiscriminately waving it in the air. Depends on the state. But yeah that would depend on permitting (e.g. Georgia and Florida are concealed).

I'm not saying this is smart given his prior 'incident'. Just that Ja Morant is an American and has rights. If the NBA wants to enact some kind of collective bargain that constrains a player/union members rights I think they'll run into problems.

I don't agree. LeBron hunting would be an advertising coup for places like Bass or Orvis. I hope you aren't implying that basketball fans, or even worse Black Americans don't enjoy the outdoors? or hunting and fishing? That's pretty racist.

I do agree recklessly brandishing a gun will get you no endorsements. Even gun stalwarts look at that kind of behavior as antithetical to responsible gun ownership and self defense.
