The Phoenix Suns met with Chris Paul and his represenatives on Wednesday to discuss his future with the franchise, including the possibility he could be waived by his June 28th guarantee date.

The Suns insist they're still working through multiple possibilities, including trade opportunities including Paul and Deandre Ayton.

Paul is only guaranteed for $15.8 million of his $30.8 million salary for 23-24.

If Paul is waived, the Suns are expected to stretch the $15.8 million over the next five seasons to create more salary cap space and open up the team's ability to use the $12.2 million taxpayer midlevel.

Paul would still like to return to the Suns.

He realizes there's no market for him, and he's not getting another big payday. So he's fighting for his life in the words of R. Kelly.

Chill man...with R Kelly's history, I wouldn't want even my worst enemy being recipient of those words coming from him lol

The wiretap isn't very clear, as they are suggesting two scenarios happening that can't occur together.

If Suns stretch the contract, then there is no way for CP3 to return to the Suns.

If they take the cap hit all in 1 year, then CP3 could sign for a vet minimum contract.

If R Kelly involved, there are worse thing to be the recipient of than words.

Surprised he’s not trying to get himself on the Lakers for a run at it with his banana buddy, but Paul is all about the loot. No disrespect to him as a player, although it would be nice to see him healthy when it counts.

Yeah, the phrasing is off, but your understanding is correct. CP doesn't want them to stretch the contract so he can come back to the team. I don't think they shouldn't stretch it, either.
