Mavericks Trying To Hire Jeff Van Gundy As Assistant Coach

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Jun 18, 2023 2:19 am

The Dallas Mavericks are in the process of gauging the interest of Jeff Van Gundy in joining the coaching staff of Jason Kidd.

Van Gundy has worked for ESPN since he exited his post as head coach of the Houston Rockets in 2007.

The Mavericks have also had interest in Frank Vogel and Nate McMillan for the job.

How long does it take to gauge someone’s interest? This was first announced two weeks ago.

Personally I wouldn't take it unless it's a head coaching job. He probably makes good money as a commentator with a lot less travel and less work.

Why would JVG become assistant coach under Jason Kidd who has done nothing to distinguish himself as a head coach?

To better position himself to become a head coach again. Monty Williams will make 13 million a year in Detroit. A good year or two in Dallas and he could be in high demand again.
