So he waited until they foolishly extended Grant to ask for a trade.

The fun part of that news is that If he has all that consideration for Portland he should have told that to them before they waste all that money with Jerami Grant in a rebuilding team.

The Blazers stated they were going to do that whether Lillard was on the team or not. They still needed a PF/C and he fits their style of play.
Every decision the Blazers are making were with rebuild in mind - or they would have traded the #3 by now.

It will suck to see him go and likely to Miami with not much coming back but at least they can finally get out of NBA purgatory and rebuild this team.

The Knicks can offer a better package

Ok, but he doesn't want to play for NYK. He has a no-trade clause

He told them to get better now and try to trade the pick for a more established player. They not only kept the pick, they took a point guard. He decided to wait until free agency and they haven't added anyone else that would make this team a playoff team.
I think he gave the Blazers a dozen different opportunities over the years. They just weren't able to get it done. Honestly, he should have asked for a trade a couple years ago but decided to stick it out.

Beal is the only player in the league that has that.

He does not have a no-trade clause. Most teams may steer clear anyway, but I remember Kawhi asking to get traded to Los Angeles and he was sent to Toronto.
The Blazers could take the best offer available but could also decide to give Lillard what he wants because of the years he gave to them. I honestly don't know what I would do in their situation, but at the same time I would have traded the 3rd pick to help keep Lillard in the first place.

“Hi Joe. So we want Dame. We’ll give you Zach Collins, Devin Vas…” click “hello Joe?? Are you there?”

He should have waited a few more days with Lopez still not signed with Milwaukee and who knows if what Phili gets back will make Embiid happy? In either case if one wanted out the blazers have young talent that nobody else can offer along with a ton of picks (they’d have to make a deal with Chicago to open their picks but it can be done). Scoot, Simmons, Nurk and a few picks is an intriguing package and overpay for Portland but it would be a contender if they pulled it off.

Then Knicks are not targeting Lillard, they’re rolling with Brunson. They may be interested in Nurkic though.

Kawhi was on his final year after missing a ton of games due to injuries. He couldn't afford to sit out that year.

Would a deal centered around Zach Lavine and portlands pick back from Chicago be of interest?

Bulls don’t have picks and I doubt they want LaVine’s contract. Plus Bulls just signed Jevon Carter and reupped Coby White at PG.

Re: Damian Lillard Requests Trade From Blazers With Heat Preferred Destination
Dame only moves the needle to a championship contender for Miami and Philly.
Riley and Morey are both masters of the art of the deal.
I think we’ll see a multiple team deal like the one Riley pulled off to obtain Antoine Walker, James Posey and Jason Williams. That won Miami a championship the next season in 2006.
Miami and Philly both can offer packages of cap relief, picks, and young players. Sixers already looking to move Harden, have Harris expiring but may not be tempted enough to move Tyrese Maxey. They are more limited than Miami in picks available.
For Miami, Portland supposedly doesn’t want Tyler Herro. Likely looking for a young big to pair with Scoot. Utah looks like a good destination for Herro and Ainge has draft picks galore to send Portland. They can package Sexton and other parts to get player(s) Portland prefers or to match and offer cap space.
I think Nets are done chasing superstars and Dame doesn’t move the needle enough for the Nets to be a viable championship contender next season. Same goes for Toronto. I think Dame is traded to the East and Miami or Philly wins the Dame derby.
I’m curious if Portland would rather get expirings and cap space in 2024 or take a swing at someone like Zion or KAT if they are made available. Portland may insist on including Nurkic who doesn’t have a teribble contract but has a terrible injury history.
It’s going to be a circus and may drag out until August…
