Damian Lillard Remains 'Very Adamant About Only Wanting To Play For Heat'

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Jul 5, 2023 6:06 pm

Damian Lillard remains "very adamant about only wanting to play for the Miami Heat," sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The Portland Trail Blazers are reportedly "not impressed" by Miami's offer for Lillard. The Heat are somewhat limited in what they can offer to send out for Lillard, especially because the Blazers would want Tyler Herro sent to a third team.

Because the two sides are in a stalemate that could necessitate the participation of a third or even a fourth team, the process "could still take a few weeks."

He should quit if he refuses to honor the contract he signed.

Lillard is owed nothing. The guy has got paid max money throughout his career. It is not right, nor fair to be paid as he is and then hold a gun to the team's head.

Everyone here is a hater, I don’t see the same people saying the same thing about Harden or Beal when they wanted out, both those guys are garbage compared to Dame, yet it seems like if your team can’t have Dame you all hate on him lol, it’s pathetic! He is the greatest Blazer of all time, a top 75 player of all time and would not have got his contract extension if he wasn’t an all nba and all star year after year. He earned his contract and the deals we just saw of 5 years at 260 is the new norm for players who can only dream of having the career Dame has had so far. As for the blazers they should trade him to Miami for the best package possible but if Miami isn’t budging, they should go back and talk with Dame, I won’t be surprised if he pulls a Durant and played in a Blazers uniform until the deadline.

It appears he's lighting on fire all the goodwill he built up over the years being loyal to his city and franchise.

Dame will regret this when he is older, just like Vince regrets his Raptor exit! mark my words!

You are the one accusing people of hating on men just because they are black and making money with absolutely zero facts to back it up. Go take your racist rants someone else.

Does he know Miami will make him play defense?
Denver, Phoenix are winning the chip, not Miami.
He should just stay in Portland where he can put up ridiculous offensive stats, make the all nba teams, all star teams as usual and crap out in the playoffs when defense wins

Loyalty is not telling a player in his best season of his 11 year career to tank and pull them from the rotation to miss the playoffs and then promising them they’ll use their assets to build around him only to draft his replacement and refuse to sign a single free agent. Dame has been asking for years for basic moves and they’ve told him just wait and we’ll do it and every deadline comes and goes and they get worse. True blazer fans know Dame is the greatest player in our franchise history and the impact on the city and fanbase is unmatched and will never be broken. He owns this city, he could be mayor tomorrow if he wanted, he’s beloved here and if other fanbases want to try to tarnish the relationship between the city and him it’s only because they could never dream of a person as good as Dame being a representative for their city and team.

Ok then why all the hate for a man making the money he’s earned? You say he should quit if he won’t honor his contract how about the billionaire owner honor their word and build around him? The most racist fans are the ones who complain about the money being made in players contracts because god forbid a black man gets rich from working his ass off for the white owner. It’s the equivalent to saying shut up and dribble, the hallmark call of privileged white people when they can’t stand to see success outside their own race.

You have to be a member of the Heat in order to play for them. That's what makes this so difficult....

If Luka Doncic was whining and saying to trade him to the Lakers or else, I would have responded the exact same way. Take your racist attitude out of here.

What will Dame regret? The situations are not comparable. Dame is turning 33 this month and the Blazers have shown an inability to build around him his whole career. Dames body is already on the decline…that team is getting younger not older. Let him go.

hahaha you need to play defense to win buddy. Miami wins a ring Las season if lillard replaces strus and vincent. Phoenix sun have 0 Dawgs in that team, just a bunch of redundant players trying to outscore opponents

If it is within a teams right to trade a player that is under contract, it is also within a players rights to request a trade. If anything the team is the one that still holds all the power, players have just recently (last 10 years or so) been able to take some power back. Also, this situation is very different than others, Dame wanted to stay with the team, he could have asked out last year, but the team asked him to stay and said they would do their best to build a competitive team, not rebuild, but this year they decided to rebuild, and asked Dame if he wants to stick around for it. The team and Dame seem to be going about this from a somewhat united front.

Also, Do you make the same argument when a team trades a player? If not, its very hypothetical to say it when a player requests a trade but not say it when a team trades a player.
