Bulls Had Zach LaVine Trade Talks With Blazers, Sixers

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Jul 7, 2023 5:17 pm

Zach LaVine emerged in preliminary trade conversations between the Chicago Bulls and both the Philadelphia 76ers and Portland Trail Blazers, sources tell KC Johnson of NBC Sports.

LaVine re-signed with the Bulls last offseason on a five-year, $215 million maximum contract. LaVine represents Chicago's best trade asset and a way of shaking up their roster.

Neither of those conversations gained traction, but it underscores how LaVine is widely considered unlikely to remain with the Bulls for the duration of his contract.

Here’s the guy the mavericks need to get after. They have a plethora of players on bad contracts. Bunch up and send out draft compensation. At the very least the team would be able to compete with anyone on the offensive end. Add an elite rim protector through trading some of your young guys.
Luka
Kyrie
Lavine
Grant Williams
(Defensive minded center) = Nice team.

Mavs issue is not scoring. You take on lavine and you add even more negative defense, an injury prone player and the inability to bring in quality role players around what you have in Kyrie and Luka due to his contract. This imo would be a terrible decision. Not sure what your logic is there.

It's a weak trade at that. Lavine is 28. Why trade him for 33 or 34 year olds. As great as dame is hes got 2 if not 3 high profile seasons left of elite dame. It's either derozan or goodbye

Eh, LaVine thrives best off the ball. He can be ball dominant, but he's an insane catch and shoot player or catch and drive player. His best fit would be evolving into the Klay Thompson role.

LaVine's defense isn't so bad anymore either. He's not a stopper, but he's not a turnstyle either. He stays in front of guys pretty well generally speaking. His issues defensively are largely around recognition and being a step slow on help defense.

certainly i can see zach having a more klay-like role (and he'd be forced to playing w/ luka), but to date he's been more off the dribble than catch and shoot. 3 pt attempts off the dribble last season:

87% luka
56% zach
26% klay

If you look at his effectiveness in C&S it's tremendous though, and he's shown a willingness to defer. He creates a lot due to the situation he's in. Next to Kyrie and Luka, I think he'd probably be willing to settle into a Klay role.
