Bulls Had 'Giant' Asking Price For Zach LaVine In Trade Talks With Knicks

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Jul 20, 2023 4:18 pm

The Chicago Bulls had a "giant" asking price when the New York Knicks reached out with interest in trading for Zach LaVine, a source tells Fred Katz of The Athletic.

The Knicks and Bulls never got close on a trade of LaVine.

In June, there were reports that the Bulls were evaluating LaVine's trade value.

The Knicks have long been considered the next team to make a major draft pick heavy trade for an All-Star caliber player. Last offseason, the Knicks pursued a trade for Donovan Mitchell before he was dealt by the Utah Jazz to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

LaVine has four years remaining on his five-year, $215 million contract signed with the Bulls in 2022.

I’m pretty sure the Bulls will have to do what the Wizards did on Beal and just take on trash to dump Lavine’s contract. Knicks should be able to trade Fournier and RJ Barrett straight up for Lavine.

Why? Lavine doesn't have a no trade clause, and two years from now when the new tv deals kicks in NBA GM's are going to have no problem giving players worse than Lavine 5 year 300 million dollar deals.

They need to follow the Tropics management plan and trade him for a washing machine before the other team realizes they got swindled.

Barrett, Fournier and 1st pick (top 4 protected) should get things done.

Don’t even need to throw in the FRP… the Knicks can wait it out and Chicago will see Fournier and Barrett is the best they can get.

That would be best case scenario. Barrett at his price point is pretty risky, Fournier is trash salary, and a late 1st isn’t enough to make up for it. Another team could probably beat that.

Elmdawg you’re missing a ton about the context to compare that to Beal, as someone else pointed out. Totally irrelevant to setting the more general market/value of guys like Lavine.

Then they’ll just keep Lavine. Easy

Bulls aren't trying to trade LaVine so of course their asking price is above market.

Dumb move if they keep him… pay all that salary to him, Demar, and Vucevic to be a play-in team again.

RJ Barrett is straight ass.

Knicks are fools for not selling on his name and his draft position a couple years ago.

I’ll take Lavine 100 times out of 100 over Barrett.

of course lavine is the better player right now

its just that lavine has little trade value and rj barret is 23 years old. lavine is putting up nice stats but hes not a difference maker and earns a lot of money. knicks are smart to stay put and wait for better players. people wanted donnie mitchell but we went for brunson as priority. who looked better in that series?

but rj for lavine straight up i dont think anybody from the knicks would say no.
im bout dat action boss

Knicks fans (and their media) think they can trade for all these all-stars with only giving up crap.
They have 4 first round picks from other teams but they are all basically lottery protected and they might never receive the Detroit or Washington picks if those teams continue to miss the playoffs. There's also a slim chance they might not get the Dallas or Milwaukee picks either as both of those have protections.
