Kyle Anderson Gains Chinese Citizenship, Could Play At FIBA World Cup

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Jul 24, 2023 5:38 am

Kyle Anderson received Chinese citizenship through naturalization, the Chinese Basketball Association announced.

Anderson's maternal grandmother was born in Jamaica to a Chinese father and Jamaican mother.

Anderson could potentially play for China in the upcoming FIBA World Cup. Teams are allowed to have one naturalized player on the roster.

China already announced an 18-player roster for the tourney, though final rosters are not yet set.

Did it say he identifies as Chinese? Just said he got Chinese citizenship through naturalization and "Foreigners may naturalize as Chinese nationals if they have immediate family with Chinese nationality." Same way that Amar'e Stoudemire has Jewish heritage through his mother's side?

Yeah sounds like he's just trying to get in some more interesting bball experiences. Not like he's going to play for team USA any time soon so why not experience that?

Exactly, Karl Anthony-Towns played for Dominican Republic early in his career through his mom's lineage even though he was born in the US. Paolo Banchero verbally committed to Italy, but changed his mind to play for Team USA.
