NBA Lays Off 'Dozens' Of Employees

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Jul 28, 2023 2:36 am

The NBA laid off "dozens" of employees on Thursday, according to Tom Friend of the Sports Business Journal.

Director of Team Business & Partner Communications Mike Wade, a 17-year league employee, was among those laid off.

“We are reallocating resources to our priority business areas, including digital and international growth, and that has resulted in the elimination of a number of positions at the league office,’’ spokesman Mike Bass told SBJ via text.

The report indicated that the layoffs were from departments not focused on revenue generation and that no further cuts are anticipated.

Record contracts given out to the players with guys like Fred Van Vleet making $138M and Dilon Brooks $80 million and Jaylen Brown $312 million.

But yeah let’s not pay the league administrative staff that may be making like $50-70k/yr at most.

Morally they will never give this up. NBA makes enough money that they can just accept what WNBA brings. Curious if it will have a net positive only time will tell. MLS use to be a joke of a league and now they have really transformed into a legit entity. Not comparing the two factions but things change over time. WNBA did a lot of cost crunching compared to how it was run 10-15 years ago
