NBA Reduces Travel Back-To-Backs To All-Time Low Of 9.0 Per Team

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Aug 18, 2023 5:29 pm

The NBA has reduced the number of travel back-to-backs in the 23-24 schedule to an average of 9.0 per team compared to 9.6 last season.

No team will play more than 15 total back-to-backs this season as well.

The total number of back-to-backs increased slightly due to the Play-In Tournament.

Travel backs-to-backs. Total back-to-backs are up from 13.3 to 14.0

And again the Warriors play the most back-to-backs with 15 while the Lakers are at the bottom of the league with 11.

All b2bs should be in the same city with the same two opponents, with an off day before and after. That way no team is at a disadvantage.

This. You could even do some sharp scheduling where you play both LA teams or NY and the like. It the traveling that wears these guys out. It insane that have teams play like Utah one day then have to Cleveland the next day.

The need for a mid season cup is an indication that something is wrong with RS games. Well one thing that is wrong is that teams far too often have a competitive advantage or disadvantage because of travel. B2Bs in the same city with the same teams, off day before and after, creates good competition. Completing most, if not all, intra-divisional games, and some intra-conference games, in this manner creates more travel days for out of division games. Some Less fatigued players, better competition.

These back to backs **** can be so easily let go off it's not even funny.

First of all, most of the guys in the league have sat on their asses(don't get me going "oh, but they are training!! BS, some of them are, some of them are not) for 6 months when the RS starts.I'm not saying we should start in September or earlier, but what's wrong with early October? To get a full month of play?

Why the **** do they always start late October and then cram the games in tons of back to backs to make up for the less time before the season needs to end?

Secondly, you force teams to play back to backs, yet every single team in the league has multiple periods in a year when they have 3-4-5 days off between games. Just get rid of those or schedule a damn game in those long breaks, you could easily avoid 3-4 back to backs just by scheduling a game in those long breaks.

I think that people really underestimate how difficult scheduling is.

Bear in mind that teams play in arenas where other teams play, concert venues take place and the like.

Players have been playing 82 games for a very long time and travel conditions were far worse before.

I think that we stay the course and the schedule makers continue to chip away at the less preferred B2Bs, while minimizing travel.

They should get rid of them completely. Having a back to back game with travel is dumb. If anything play the same team twice in a row or have your back to backs at home.
SELL THE TEAM, JIM!!! :curse:
