Reggie Bullock Deal With Rockets Is For One Year At Veteran Minimum

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Oct 6, 2023 4:46 am

Reggie Bullock's deal with the Houston Rockets is for one year at the veteran minimum, sources told Keith Smith of Spotrac.

The Rockets still have their full $7.7 million room exception available.

Didn't Bullock get 11M? The vet minimum is less than that?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

11M is closer to the non-taxpayer mid-level of 12M than the 2.5M vet minimum. I'm sure the money he gave up in the buyout from the Spurs was pretty close to whatever the Rockets are giving him.

He was the Knicks best 3&D player and they let him go and rather than pay him 11 mill they paid Fournier $18m per. Bullock is a lot better value for the price. Knicks made a goof.

I mean fournier is overpaid thats a given but this guy just got a vet min and no team dug into their mid level to pay him and their are a few teams still with a mid level.. So his market clearly is not 11mil.. Knicks shouldnt compound errors..

His contract is offset by his buyout from S.A.
It's fairly common for buyouts to sign for the vet min to go to their team of choice because they're still essentially getting their whole contract.

What a dumb place to sign for the minimum. He must want to stay in Texas.

Why would he sign a multi-year deal when he'll be in line for a much bigger contract next summer?

As for Houston, Ime Udoka is an extremely popular coach plus recent events (Porter Jr.) have opened a clear path to a decent block o minutes at the backup 2 guard position.
That's something Bullock may have considered given he'll be going back into free agency next summer.
