Nuggets Prepared To Give Jamal Murray Supermax Extension

Jamal Murray hasn't had his full breakout season just yet. But the Denver Nuggets are prepared to pay him when he does.
“We’re anticipating that we’re probably paying him the supermax,” Nuggets general manager Calvin Booth said. “He’ll probably make All-NBA.”
Booth added that Denver knows that a supermax extension for Murray will put a lot of salary on their cap sheet, but that they'll be happy to offer it anyway.
“It’s going to be a hit to our salary cap,” Booth said. “But I love seeing people reach their potential when they play the way he can.”
Murray has yet to be named to an All-Star team, never mind All-NBA. In order to qualify for a supermax extension, Murray would need to be named to the All-NBA team this season or next season. Murray's current deal has two years left, running through the 2024-25 season.

so they're predicting he'll be healthy and outplay Book & Fox? Guess we can throw Ant in there too. Maybe Trey or Ky? ... Ja's out bc of his suspension & the new CBA.
my locks are - Steph, Shai, Mitchell, Luka & Dame. i'd guess Booker makes the cut over Murray or the other guys

Whether they are right or wrong, that’s the best kind of motivation you can give player to have a break out year.

Lol Booker will easily clear Mitchell. Mitchell’s probably the most overrated player in the league. Inefficient chucker that can’t play a lick of defense. Even his own teammate on previous team told him to become a better defender like Booker (name dropping Booker).

Regular season is just a long pre-season this guy is big time performer when it truly matters, he's a real superstar when pressure is at its highest.

He out played them all in the playoffs, where it really matters.

He did not outplay Steph/Booker. And Devin Booker just absolutely torched the Nuggets. Jamal in no playoff round played near Booker's level.
Obviously Dame/Luka/Shai did not make the playoffs. Jamal was just on a better team with the best player in the world. Playing with Joker dominating the entire NBA is easy mode. Jamal Murray played great, but don't overhype him that that extent. I am sure all those players would love to be in that situation. Curry has the entire defensive scheme focused on him. Same with Joker.

Not to mention it's just smart business to prepare for the eventuality of having another supermax on your cap sheet.

Lol I get what you’re saying but All NBA is a regular season award so it’s actually the opposite. For the purposes of getting his bag, what really matters is for him to do it for the whole regular season, which he hasn’t shown he can do yet.

Then the NBA needs to change the rules and include playoff performance into the equation. If mfing choker Harden can get max money then why wouldn't Murray get one? The NBA awarding selfish play in the regular season too many of these guys just play for stats.

In WCF Jamal averaged 32.5/6.3/5.3 with 2.8 stl shooting 53/41/95 which is better than Booker was against the Nuggets. He was leading scorer in a series with Joker, LeBron, AD.
Booker was great in playoffs all the way to series ending game when he scored 12 pts on 4-13 from the field. And he is the only one who has case against Murray in this playoffs.
Against the same Lakers team that Murray torched Steph averaged 26.7/5.5/7.5 on 44/34/88
So, yes having Jokic helps but Murray played as good or better than any other guard in these playoffs.

It's a silly comparison. Lakers were leaving Klay freaking Thompson wide open all series just so they could focus on Steph. To compare the numbers of Steph having the entire Lakers defense focused just on him to Jamal Murray's is not a fair comparison. Give Murray Draymond/Looney on offense instead of Joker/Gordon and have the entire defense focus on Murray and lets see what numbers he puts up.

I don't get this now. You said

Who cares about what-ifs?

You are reading off stats with no context was my point. Stats never tell the full story. Steph outplayed everybody but probably Joker because Steph creates the entire Warriors offense. It's all on him. Everyone is focused on Joker/Giannis/Steph/Jimmy. It's much easier to play off someone like that because they are the ones drawing all the attention.
And the Booker argument doesn't even make sense. Booker was by far the most efficient scorer in the playoffs while having to be out of position and be the PG for the injured CP3 in the Nuggets series.

So your argument is based on what you think without any proof, stats or anything. Curry was 2nd best in the playoffs says you and we have to accept it as fact.
Have you seen Murray playing 1 on 5 against Lakers torching AD, LeBron, Vando, Schroeder, or whoever again, and again? You haven't obviously because you wouldn't argue if you did. Joker even said he just moved out of Murray's way during that stretch in the WCF because Murray was unstoppable. Have you watched the finals when Miami started throwing double teams on Murray the moment he crossed the halfcourt, leaving Joker to play 4 on 3 because Murray was killing them so bad?
And again if you didn't understand - you said "Jamal in no playoff round played near Booker's level." Yes he did I proved you wrong, what doesn't make sense here? That you want to argue without argument.
In WCF Jamal averaged 32.5/6.3/5.3 with 2.8 stl shooting 53/41/95, read again. That is as good as Booker was against Nuggets, while you said he wasn't near. Yes, he was. I brought stats and facts. You brought opinion. Keep it if you can't back it up with anything.

My argument is actually watching the games. You are going just stats based. You must think Russell Westbrook is the GOAT and that if anybody disagrees then they can't prove it. And I guess Andre Drummond was the best big man in the NBA at some point.
