Bulls To Reevaluate Team After Zach LaVine Trade Before Making More Deals

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Dec 14, 2023 1:30 pm

The Chicago Bulls reportedly would prefer to trade Zach LaVine sooner, rather than later. Chicago wants enough time to reevaluate their team with the players they get back for LaVine before making any further moves.

Reportedly, Bulls vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas is set on moving LaVine, despite the fact that a market hasn't really developed yet. The relationship between LaVine and Chicago head coach Billy Donovan is professionally broken, making a trade the necessary path forward.

The NBA trade market unofficially opens on December 15, when many of the players who signed over the summer can be traded. On January 15, that market will further expand when several players who re-signed with their teams can be traded. That would give the Bulls a window to see how their post-LaVine team has come together before considering other trades.

Do you have a liking for the PHI 76ers? Let's analyze this thoroughly to understand your perspective. Lavine might be traded to a playoff hopeful team in need of a superstar, with PHI/LAL as strong contenders. While not many teams are eager for his contract, he remains a highly talented player. Acquiring him without sacrificing significant assets might be the goal, especially considering the desire to shed Chicago's large contract.

In terms of draft picks, a lottery-protected pick seems to be the primary desirable asset in this trade, alongside the salary dump. However, if the players mentioned above are the assets in return, they might not be deemed sufficient. Derozan alone could command 1-2 FRP with some protections, making a deal with Jaden Springer, KJ Martin, and Paul Reed necessary for such negotiations.

While a post-season run for PHI looks promising, concerns about reconstructing rotations post-trade arise. Despite this, the potential acquisition of Lavine could make the effort worthwhile. Personally, prioritizing Tobias Harris over Batum/Melton seems crucial for the roster and post-season success. I've included the young assets CHI might demand; tweaking the offer to two FRP and a couple of seconds could enhance satisfaction for both parties.

Bulls Receive:

Nicolas Batum
Marcus Morris
Robert Covington
Paul Reed
Jaden Springer
KJ Martin
2026 PHI FRP (Top 10 Protection)
2028 PHI FRP PICK Swap
2029 PHI FRP (Lottery Protection)

76ers Receive:
Zack Lavine
Demar Derozan
Andre Drummond
2028 CHI FRP PICK Swap (Least favorable)

Let me guess you like the PHI 76ers? Let’s really break this down together so we can truly get your framework and thought process. Lavine gets dealt to a superstar needy playoff hopeful team. PHI/LAL are strong candidates. Not too many teams want his contract but he’s still very a talented player. Maybe you think you can get him without giving up superb assets to take the large deal off the books in CHI. When it comes to FRP being cheap and protecting the pick LOTTERY protected pick which is truly the only desirable asset in this trade besides salary dump. But if the assets you are getting back is the players listed above they would laugh at you. Derozan alone will get 1-2 FRP (with some protections) and if you ever expect to sniff this type of deal Jaden Springer, KJ Martin & Paul Reed would have to be involved.

PHI would have a solid team for a post season run but you also worry having to build back your rotations on the fly after the trade but would be worth it. I think Tobias Harris is more important to keep for the roster and post season and changed the direction with keeping him and moving Batum/Melton. Obviously I added all the young assets that CHI will demand and maybe limiting it to two FRP and a couple seconds could be an improvement if needed so both sides are happy

Bulls Receive:

2026 PHI FRP (Top 10 Protection)

You must not be aware that Lavine is injured trash, and his contract is an albatross.

LaVine and DeRozan don't work together. No team is trading for both of them. Aside from that, LaVine is overpaid when healthy... and he isn't healthy. Take Tobias and LaVine out of that deal and you might have something.
