Draymond Green: Adam Silver Talked Me Out Of Retiring From NBA

During a new podcast episode, Draymond Green claims Adam Silver talked him out of the idea of retiring from the NBA following his hit on Jusuf Nurkic. Green was indefinitely suspended by the NBA following the incident.

"I told him, 'Adam this is too much for me. ... This is too much. It's all becoming too much for me -- and I'm going to retire.' And Adam said, 'You're making a very rash decision and I won't let you do that.'

"We had a long, great conversation -- very helpful to me. Very thankful to play in a league with a commissioner like Adam who's more about helping you than hurting you; helping you than punishing you. He's more about the players."

After undergoing a month of counseling, the NBA reinstated Green on Saturday and he started ramping up with the Golden State Warriors on Sunday. Green is expected to return to game action in one week.

Green is in Year 1 of a four-year, $100 million contract with the Warriors.

I don't necessarily blame him. At this level everything is done instinctually. It sounds hard to believe, but knowing you do something automatically and the next time you do it you're likely to get a year of suspension is pretty scary. It's his fault for allowing these tendencies to become instinctual ---this is something he should have deprogrammed himself from a long time ago. And now he's facing a situation where he can't afford to have it happen again. Don't do some dirty **** sounds easy, but his instincts have gotten him to the success level he's at today.

He wants people to know he was considering retirement because its too much for him. Hes struggling, having a hard time...not assaulting people

Adam Silver is such a horrible commissioner. Probably bent over for him full out. They don't want him to be suspended.

Increíble that he has the nerve to have this tantrum after making fun of Gobert for crying about not making the All-Star game (when he absolutely deserved it). How anyone can like him is beyond me.

Yeah that take was clearly wrong.

1. Money.
Draymond has $75M left on his deal AFTER this season.

2. Media (fame/relevance + money)
Draymond is already working on a post NBA career-- this quote is from his OWN show.
There is no show without the NBA.

There have been less than 5K players to ever suit up in the NBA dating back to 1947.
Of those <5K, how many have made a successful career in the media after their playing days? 200? Maybe?
And probably half of that has come via social media in the last decade, like PG13, Austin Rivers, and Draymond's podcasts.

He's trying (very hard) at something few have done. Of course he needs the NBA. He's silenced and irrelevant without it.
