Lakers, Hawks Discussed Dejounte Murray For D'Angelo Russell, 2029 FRP, Pick Swap

The Los Angeles Lakers and Atlanta Hawks had extensive trade discussions a few weeks ago on Dejounte Murray, sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic. 

The deal was centered around D'Angelo Russell, a 2029 first round pick and a pick swap for Murray. Atlanta, however, held up the talks as they looked to send Russell to a third team in hopes of getting an expiring contract back in return.

Russell signed a two-year, $36 million contract with the Lakers during the 2023 offseason.

Charania expects the Lakers and Hawks to talk again before the deadline.

Murray is widely expected to be traded by the Hawks this season.

Because if not, he should have been traded to Jazz, Nets, Rockets, Heat, Knicks...

Keep Russell and trade Reaves. They would still have Gabe Vincent if needed to start in the playoffs. Russell’s peak when he’s on is much higher and he’s a better shooter compared to reaves. Also, What you would be getting on offense from Murray would replace what you are getting from reaves.

Not a good return considering what they gave up to get him - three first-rounders (two of which are unprotected) and a swap. Hopefully this is just Lakers putting out in the media, as my kids would say - yucky.

Maybe, but that doesn't change what I said and I don't think any other agent has come close to the 4+billion in contracts that he's negotiated so far, not counting the rest of Klutch. Maybe Schwartz I think is next but I it's almost half of that. Doesn't matter, was more lamenting the sway on teams that Paul and other agents have.

Am I tripping or don't the Hawks have Murray for like 3-4 years because of his extension? If so, why are they rushing to tradeh him? You can't seriously tell me this is the best offer they can get for him when he's not even expiring or has publically demanded a trade.
