Wizards 'Very Reticent' To Consider Trading Kyle Kuzma

Kyle Kuzma has been mentioned as a trade candidate leading to the deadline a few months after re-signing with the Washington Wizards on a four-year, $102 million deal. The Wizards, however, do not currently appear motivated to trade Kuzma.
"Washington has been very reticent with Kyle Kuzma," said Adrian Wojnarowski on his podcast. "People are calling them. Teams tell me they call them and they're not getting counters from Washington. If you want to register an offer for Kuzma, fine, you can do it. But they're not at the point now where it seems like they're really active in maybe seriously trying to move him. It could change by the deadline, but I know Michael Winger and Will Dawkins like Kuzma, like having him there. I think they'll be particular about what they might do."

Reticent - not revealing one's thoughts or feelings readily.

The other part of the word “reticent” is that it indicates reluctance, and I think that’s also what Woj is trying to get across.
Kyle Kuzma isn’t some massive star, but he’s one of the Wizards’ best players, and can provide a tentpole for a structured offense for the development of the Wizards youth, now and in the future. I don’t think they are going to jump at the first offer.

Car dealers are the only business I've ever seen that actively tries NOT to sell their product.

Reticent "about" way more natural use of the word than reticent "to"

Actually think it’s because this word is used wrong a lot of the times it’s used in sports media. It means that you keep things close to the vest, don’t talk a lot and don’t reveal what you’re up to. The word is usually used (properly) to describe people who are quiet/private in general or else are clamming up about something and people are aware of it.
In sports media, for some reason people seem to use it instead of ‘reluctant,’ not sure why. X team is reticent to include Y player in a trade etc.
I think Woj is almost using it right here but is using a weird construction that makes it wrong or at least confusing. They haven’t been reticent ‘with’ Kuzma (that would mean not talking to him) but rather reticent about their interest in trading him. Seems like there are easier ways to say this, in any case.

So I looked it up and apparently this has become an accepted second meaning of ‘reticent.’ But you have to pick one or the other: either you’re not revealing your interest at all—you might be interested or not but you’re not showing it either way—or you don’t want to be interested and are leaning away from that. The two meanings are distinct, ‘reluctant’ isnt included in the primary definition and it kinda contradicts it.

I thought the new Wizards GM may end up smart. Nevermind.
