This is the buyout market, if the player was amazing and going to move the meter on a team winning a championship they would have had to give up assets and trade for them.

That being said having seen Thad on the Raps for the past few years. He is a high basketball IQ player, will fit into the system quickly and be able to provide you spot up minutes at a few positions. Solid defense and can hit a bucket every once and a while. He also understands the game and his place on a team and is great at moving the ball. Great pick up from the buyout market. He deserved more playing time with the Raptors but with the youth movement this year he wasn't going to get it.

Probably the same reason Masai gave up a 1st rounder for him except they're not getting fleeced in the process.

Why do people gotta be like "what's he going to add?"

An ass into the 13th man seat and a veteran body for practice and fouls. It's not rocket science.

Perhaps, as a Laker fan, you are projecting your own recent buyout market experiences?

March 2021:
Lakers are 4th in the West with .638 win percent.
They are 1 game behind Clippers & 2 games back from CP3/Booker Suns.
But defending champs have also lost 4 of 5 and Lebron just hurt his ankle.
Pelinka adds Drummond in the buyout market, fresh off being waived by Cleveland.
(Big Cat hasn't played even 1 minute in well over a month.)
Lakers are immediately blown out by Milwaukee at home with Drummond in the starting lineup.
Drummond starts every game to close the season.
Lebron returns 1 month later for the final stretch, the Lakers finish .500 (in Drummond's tenure), and they win the play-in.
Lakers immediately lose to the Suns in the 1st round.
Lebron commits 25 turnovers in 6 games.
Davis shoots a lower percentage than Cam Payne on the series.
Ayton shoots .796 FG% with an insane 143 ORtg lined up opposite Drummond.

March 2022:
Lakers are 6 games behind the Clippers, stuck firmly in the 9 seed.
Pelinka adds DJ Augustin to the backcourt via the buyout market, fresh off being waved by Houston.
Augustin plays a key reserve role (~20 mpg) in all 21 of the remaining games.
AD returns from injury to average 24/11/5 in 3 straight losses.
Lakers finish 6-15 and miss the play-in by ONE game, to the Spurs.

Neither guy got them over the hump.
Because this is the buyout market.

I'm not a bronsexual so I don't really like the pickup.
