Jordan Poole Considered To Have One Of NBA's 'Worst' Contracts

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Mar 1, 2024 4:00 pm

Jordan Poole has three seasons and $95 million remaining on the four-year, $128 million extension he signed with the Golden State Warriors before the 22-23 season.

Zach Lowe writes that Poole's contract could be the "worst" one in the NBA.

The Warriors sent Poole and a protected 2030 first round pick to the Washington Wizards for the expiring contract of Chris Paul. The outlay the Warriors sent to the Wizards was a signal even then that Poole's contract was viewed as a net negative.

Poole is averaging just 16.3 points this season with a TS% of .513. When Poole had a breakout season in 21-22, he had a TS% of .598 while averaging 18.5 points.

Poole, who can be a free agent in 2027, is represented by Drew Morrison and Austin Brown.

Everyone should hire Poole’s agent.

Let's be honest. He showed up with a lawyer and that was the end of that.

first Troy Weaver and now Michael Winger, that OKC front office tree isn't looking too bright.

No he does not have the worst contract in the NBA. That honor goes to Zach Levine.

Oct. 15: Just 10 days after the infamous punch, Poole signs a four-year, $140 million extension with the Warriors, the biggest move and a critical commitment in an offseason in which Golden State let Gary Payton II and Otto Porter Jr. walk. The move is viewed as a strong signal that the Warriors are leaning into the two-timeline approach that just helped them win a title.

Dang, I need Ginko Biloba... my memory is fuzzy!

Still, Poole would have gotten this contract either way. GSW thought Poole was good and wouldn't have cared at all if Poole sued Draymond.

lol I just started taking ginseng last week, no lie. I don’t think he’d have earned much over $100M. Remember that this is not a Monopoly Myers contract. MDJ knows full well what happens when the Dubs hand the bag to a mediocre wing player and he was not about to set Poole up to take his job one day.

Maybe, but Poole was the most prominent remaining "Two Timelines" player and at 22yo he averaged an efficient 17/3/4 in their championship run. No, I think he was getting that bag. I don't think the punch had anything to do with it.

Then why did they wait until October to offer him more/less the max they could offer?

Look, I always thought Polle was overrated, but go back and look at the thoughts about Poole just prior to the punch.

I’ll drop it. These are both written before Bob left.
