Draft Picks In 20s & 30s Could Have Increased Value With Two-Day Event

Draft picks in the 20s and 30s could take on an increase in value following the move to a two-day draft, sources told ESPN.

Sources also add that there could a stronger trade market for picks in the 30s due to the additional time.

"Way more second-round picks would be traded every year, except [because of the lack of time] no one knows who has them. A team makes a trade, then another trade. I'm spending 10 minutes hunting down picks, and by the time you find out where it is, it's too late to make a deal," an Eastern Conference executive told ESPN.

The league is still discussing green room invites and how to handle prospects who aren't drafted on the first night.

There are also discussions around having more space between the NBA Draft and the start of free agency.

What an absolute load of crap. Picks in 20s and 30s will have the SAME EXACT VALUE, it doesn't matter if it's a 2 day event. LMFAO!!! NBA trying scam money out of its viewers by adding an extra day for no reason and pretending there will be more trades. No there won't. Teams that are unprepared like the idiot quoted in the article will fail at trades for that reason. How do you not have all that info readily available?

Given that my Knicks have 3 picks between 20 and 39, I'd love it if this was true, but the truth is that, more time might lead to more trades being done (more time to make calls and discuss trades), other than that, it won't be much difference. Maybe no difference at all. I don't think more time to discuss trades changes the value much.

I don't think it would do much for picks in the 20s or 30s, but I do think more time would probably result in more trades in the 2nd round. Those picks are often traded many times over and have complicated protections on them, and you only have 3 minutes between selections, so it is hard to sort out. The 1st rounders aren't moved around like that, so probably irrelevant there.

I don't think that would make things particularly more interesting for fans as the players are typically mostly irrelevant by this point anyway, nor do I think it would shake up the league much given how few 2nd rounders pan out.

From a TV perspective, I don't think it's going to mean much one way or the other. I think most people tune out of the draft after the 1st round anyway. I have a huge draft party every year (peaked at 40 people) and everyone starts bailing after the 1st round. So maybe the league gets a bit of benefit, but I don't see it meaning much for TV/ESPN.

Oh yeah definitely more time for trades. Lots of these late picks are kind of last second.

Maybe there are slightly more trades, but the value doesn't change.
