The Dallas Mavericks advanced to the second round of the NBA Playoffs this year. Now, Jason Kidd may be the beneficiary of a contract extension.

Kidd has led the Mavericks to two 50-win seasons in his three years in charge. Dallas made the Western Conference Finals in 2022. After missing the postseason last year, the Mavs will play the Oklahoma City Thunder with a chance to head back to the Western Conference Finals.

The Los Angeles Lakers were rumored to be a suitor for Kidd's services. Los Angeles has apparently given up on any expectations they'll be able to pursue Kidd to replace Darvin Ham.

There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.

Losing Kidd wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world for the Mavs. And frankly, why would Kidd want to go to LA unless they money whip him?

If Lakers is offering him 5-year deal and his deal is expiring with Mavs soon, then he'll ask them to match or leave.
More money, more years, LA life.

And go from coaching 25yo Luka and Kyrie to 39yo Lebron and glassbone AD, with 10x the media pressure. No way he touches that

For some reason people have switched to thinking Kidd is a good coach again. He is ass and Mavs should look for a better coach, unless Doncic and kyrie are vouching for him. In which case the Mavs' hands are tied and maybe thats why theyre doing this.

If Mavs and Lakers offer the same $25m/5 year then he stays with Mavs.

If Mavs not offer anything, Lakers offer $25m then he would sign with Lakers and get fired in a year.

In general, Lakers coaching job would be nice if you get 4-5 year deal. Work one year but still get $25m/5 year checks while traveling around the world or simply go for another team and collect two checks?
Like Doc Rivers may get fired in a year, but he'll keep collecting checks for 5 years!

He's pretty solid, I've seen much worse, and the players apparently love him. In game adjustments are still very painful though and he keeps going away from lineups that work too often.
