Game 1 between the Indiana Pacers and Boston Celtics averaged 6.48 million viewers across ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPN Deportes.

It is the most-watched Eastern Conference Finals Game 1 since Cavs-Celtics in 2018.

The viewership, an 8% increase from last year, also represents the third most-watched game of this year's playoffs.

So 7 billion dollars total for a league that averages 7 million viewers max? Is that basically 1000 bucks a viewer? Can they sell enough advertisement to get more than $1000 a viewer?

A quick google search shows “On average, though, 3 cents to 30 cents per view is common.”

Wait, what? I'm really curious to understand what you just said. Who gets 1000? Who gets the 3 or cents? I'm so confused

Well if the networks paid 7 billion a year to bring in 7 million viewers per game, basically they are paying the NBA 1000 dollars a year for a single viewer of their nba games. Networks run on advertising so are they able to sells enough advertisements during these games to make a profit based on typical advertisement fees per viewer.

Obviously all these companies have streaming on the mind for the NBA but I just don’t see how they make a profit at these costs.
