Luka Doncic is eligible to sign a $346 super max extension in 2025 after making the 2024 All-NBA First Team.
It would be the largest contract in NBA history, with Doncic eligible to make $78 million in the 2030-31 season.
The NBA salary cap is also likely to eclipse $200 million in the 2028-29 season.

Where does it end? Will we see 1 billion dollar contracts in ten years? This is why I have to see virtual ads on the court even though I pay for multiple cable packages and soon streaming subscriptions to get all my team's games.

Why would you expect it to end? In every profession, people get raises. Year after year forever. The players have negotiated a percentage of NBA revenue, so as long as revenue keeps going up, so will their salaries.
But yeah, the streaming options suck. There is no good reason why they can't just offer an entire season package vs having league pass for regular season and then the playoffs spread all over.

I don't like how most teams have priced average fans out of the arena, but that's not even the players fault. The owners set the ticket prices, and then team salary caps and player salaries are based on the revenue share of total BRI which is the fairest way to do it. (Regardless I am guessing most of the salary increases are due to rise in broadcast revenue anyway, which again players have nothing to do with.)
Besides have a heart- don't you know how much it costs to eat at McDonald's now???

After the last couple of Mavs-Clippers series, he's begrudgingly becoming one of my favorite players. I'm hoping to see Mavs in the Finals with a healthy Luka.

This brings me no joy. If we can pay the players this much can we lower ticket prices ? Pay him one million less and let me see a game, everyone wins.

The new media deal is worth more than 3x the current one. Max salaries are calculated as a percentage of the salary cap. The salary cap is a function of league wide BRI. And the bulk of BRI comes from the broadcasting/media deal(s).

If they get raises within the context of maintaining a quality product, then I don't care. The ads on the court, required because the cost of the rights packages are so high, diminish the quality of the product. The constant messaging of gambling during the broadcasts diminish the quality of the product. We don't pay to go to a movie and then see ads on the studio floor during scenes and we don't see virtual ads superimposed on the movie if we watch at home. Actors don't insert requests that we gamble in breaks between scenes.
The NBA itself has a slogan "NBA Cares". I didn't make them care, many don't really care if they care, but they said they care, so if they care they should care about not creating gambling addicts. Otherwise they are hypocrites.
