Jimmy Butler has at least three teams willing to trade for him this offseason with the intent of then signing him to a max-level extension, sources tell Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald

Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported earlier this week that the Sixers have interest in trading for and then extending Butler.

The two-year max extension that Butler and his camp will push for this offseason includes salaries of $54.3 million for the 25-26 season and $58.6 million for 26-27.

Butler would be eligible to sign the same two-year, $113 million extension that he can sign with the Heat with any team he’s traded to because his Bird Rights carry over in a trade, but that deal could not be agreed upon for six months.

There a reason the other two teams aren't named?

One is obviously the Lakers. The other: Golden State? Not really sure.

Only 3 teams with "cap space" this off-season to potentially sign Butler to a max deal :

76'rs
Jazz
Pistons

It doesn't matter. He is signed through 2024-25.

Butler is not a free agent until potentially next summer or else the next, so it doesn't matter which team has cap space for a max contract right now.

As he’s still under contract, this is tampering …

Yeah, he's not a free agent. But cap space can be used in a trade. If the team receiving the player is under the cap after the trade, they don't have to match salary, sending a cap exception and other assets instead, like draft picks. The newly acquired player can then sign an extension with the new team. So which teams have "max" cap space does matter here

Do you need cap space to extend him after trading for him and having him under contract for another year?

I don't think those 3 teams having max contract cap space matters for the (max) extension, it only plays a role in what a potential trade for Butler would look like.
