Lakers Targeting Dan Hurley As Next Head Coach

The Los Angeles Lakers are targeting UConn's Dan Hurley as their next head coach. Los Angeles has made initial contact with Hurley, and discussions are expected to pick up in the coming days.

The Lakers are prepared to offer Hurley a massive, long-term contract to jump from the Huskies to the NBA. Even while interviewing several other candidates, Hurley has been at the forefront of the coaching search for general manager Rob Pelinka and primary governor Jeanie Buss.

Hurley has won back-to-back national championships while at Connecticut. He's regarded as a great tactician and developer of talent. The Lakers believe Hurley will be able to maximize their young core, while developing future talent. Los Angeles believes those to be keys to winning in the NBA's new second-apron era. With restrictions on roster-building for the most expensive teams, developing young players could be key to winning at a high level.

These desperate attempts to keep Lakers relevant with coaching stories is getting a little weak.

No matter who gets hired they will be gone in 2 years if they don’t make the finals.

Y'all can laugh if you want, but this would be a better hire than JJ Reddick.

So UK offered him $11 mil and Hurley said no.

The highest paid NBA coach is at $13 mil (Monty Williams), so then would Lakers offer be $13-14 mil per season? Maybe 6-7 year deal with a couple of options to get up to 8-9 years. Incentives for making and winning Finals.

I agree this hire would be better than JJ.

Monty has been surpassed over the past year. Kerr is the highest paid at $17.5m. Followed by Pop at $16m, Spo at $15m and Ty Lue at $14m.

they're choosing a new leader for one of the most popular, profitable franchises in the world. i think reporting on a major college coach as a likely candidate is okay.

I hate to say this, but I use Bing now. Google is GARBAGE now especially since the 'copilot' AI stuff was added. And I get about $15 a month in gift cards just from using bing as my standard. (microsoft reward points, can go to amazon)

i dont know why reddick is not take serious around here?

yea, he has no experience but coaching these days is not so much about experience as a coach. its about managing relationships and getting players the ball in the best possible spots, meaning having some understanding of X and Os. Reddick has proven he is good at crawling up players asses and giving fair criticism because he was one of them not too long ago and i believe he has a very high bball iq.

despite experience reddick has everything he needs to be a good coach in this league. what kind of players he has to coac, if they take him serious and if they buy in, is much more important.

They'll offer him around $20 Mill for like 5 years. Gotta offer him a lot due to them damn LA taxes.

Hurley, like every D1 coach who makes the jump to the NBA, wont have the influx of top end talent he was used to assembling with his staff at UConn. He'll be limited to the talent currently on the team, draft selections, and FAs as allowed under the CBA. Do Billy Donavan or John Calapari ring any bells.

We already know from NO's experience that building a contending team around the glass man/street clothes is difficult to assemble. Once James leaves I cannot help but believe that street clothes wont be wearing a different uniform.

Hurley will get lots of other opportunities without the pressure of LA and should pass on the Lakers until a full reset away from LeBron/AD is done.

Hopefully the next thread will be about how close the Lakers are to finalizing their deal with JJ.
