J.J. Redick is still a "viable candidate" to become the next head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, sources told Jovan Buha of The Athletic.

This despite news that the Lakers are "eager to close" Dan Hurley on Friday.

Redick was rumored to be the front runner for the position earlier in the week.

Mike Krzyzewski has been unofficially advising the Lakers throughout the coaching search.

At this stage, the Lakers should just hire Coach K. I don’t get why teams hire advisors like Dumars, JVG, and D’Antoni to find new coaches when the advisors can just do it themselves.

Joking?

Coach K has been retired for years and almost 80 years old

He has severe back problems -- ruptured a disk 30 years ago that caused him to miss a season and at one point had 6 surgeries in 15 months during the 2010s decade.

Has osteoarthritis in his hips -- still limps to this day, despite getting his full hip replacement on the left in 1999 and his right in 2002. Likely overdue to get both replaced again.

He also had full left knee replacement in April 2016 and his right knee replacement in Aug 2017.

He missed lengthy stretches of multiple games at Duke for all of these medical situations, including offseason team overseas trips, exhibitions, and practices.

Less than zero chance he could coach an NBA team, even if he had interest.

They do this because GM's without coaching experience typically don't have the expertise to evaluate a potential coach's ideas for how to turn a team around. Any of the coaches you mentioned would know in 2 minutes if Redick has his head up his butt.
