The Los Angeles Lakers hope to hire their next head coach by the draft beginning on June 26th, sources tell ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

James Borrego, who has interviewed twice for the job, remains one of the candidates for the Lakers.

The Lakers could also conduct their first formal interview with J.J. Redick.

That said I agree with you about JJ, Redick would be better off waiting for a better situation(younger roster, less pressure than LA fishbowl) to start his coaching career. My guess is that despite the dicey fit the Lakers will make Redick a big offer to save face after whiffing on Hurley, a lower-profile veteran like Borrego will not impress the hot-take media and the casuals in the same way.

Pelinka wants a coach so he can tell them who he's drafting.
