Monty Williams is likely to return as the head coach of the Detroit Pistons next season, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line.

The Pistons hired Fred Vinson from the Pelicans as an assistant coach on Friday. The move was seen as a "clear signal" that Williams would return next year.

Williams is set to enter the second year of his six-year deal.

They are paying regardless. The question is, what is more beneficial; paying Monty to continue to coach, or pay him to go away?

Paying him to go away is the smart move.

This has been a certainty since Weaver was kicked to the curb.

Would someone explain to me why he would not be returning? Detroit wants to pay him $65M to go home? He did have a very strong roster in PHX so maybe its not so easy in Detroit for Monty. Never understood why they paid him such an exuberant contract regardless of how hard it is to bring talent to Detroit.
