The Golden State Warriors plan to let the $8 million contract of Kevon Looney guarantee for the 24-25 season, sources tell Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

Looney's future with the Warriors was one of the more open questions this offseason as only $3 million was guaranteed, which would allow the team to save against the luxury tax. Looney fell out of the rotation behind Trayce Jackson-Davis, but he worked his way back during the final stretch of the season. Looney has lone been one of Steve Kerr's favorite players.

If Looney was released and the Warriors subsequently signed a minimum veteran center, the savings in salary and luxury tax would be minimal.

The Warriors could also use his salary in trade scenarios.

It's pretty pathetic isn't it? And it has been this way for years now.

From the actual source:

Some other quick buzz: Kevon Looney, drafted in 2015, has been a member of the Warriors for nearly nine years. It appears that his tenure will continue into next week. Only $3 million of Looney’s $8 million is currently guaranteed for next season. The other $5 million guarantees on Monday, presenting the possibility he could be released.
But that isn’t the Warriors’ current plan, according to league sources. They are expected to let the rest of Looney’s $8 million contract guarantee, keeping him in their current plans, though it does remain possible they eventually use his salary to help complete an offseason trade.

Kevon Looney is a bargain at $8m compared to other centers, especially starting ones. For his minutes, he doesn't do too much, dish out a couple assists and score a little, and is a monster on the boards, especially on offense.
