2024 NBA Draft FAQ: Players, Teams, Stats, Order, How To Watch
The 2024 NBA Draft may not have obvious superstar potential at the top of the board, but it makes scouting and selecting the right fits all the more important and fascinating. The Atlanta Hawks won the lottery on May 12th and their direction at No. 1 remains an open question even though they have been strongly linked to Zaccharie Risacher, while the Washington Wizards are believed to be zeroed in on Alex Sarr at No. 2 if he remains available. With the Houston Rockets selecting at No. 3 and open to trade possibilities, the real surprises of the draft could start then with All-Star veterans potentially on the move as well on draft night.
• When is the 2024 NBA Draft?
For the first time in league history, the 2024 NBA Draft will be held over two days on June 26-27, 2024. The first round will start at 8:00 PM ET and be held at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, while the second round will begin on 4:00 PM ET on Thursday and be hosted at ESPN’s Seaport District Studios in New York.
Adam Silver will announce the picks for the first round. Deputy commissioner Mark Tatum will announce the picks for the second round.
• How many minutes between picks?
The first round will continue to have five minutes between draft picks. The time between picks in the second round will increase from two minutes to four minutes.
• Why is the draft now held over two nights instead of one?
The second round previously had two minutes between picks, which complicated the ability of teams to trade picks and reset draft boards. There will also be more time for the audience to follow who is being selected and for the players to be featured.
The broadcast will likely benefit from the question of when Bronny James will be selected in the second round in the first season of its new format.
• How long will the draft last?
The first round of the draft should end around 11:00 PM ET on Wednesday and last three hours. The second round of the draft should end around 6:00 PM ET and last approximately two hours.
