Warriors Have 'Legitimate Interest' In Acquiring Paul George

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Jun 28, 2024 2:28 pm

The Golden State Warriors have "legitimate interest" in acquiring Paul George, sources tell The Athletic. George has until Saturday to make a decision on his $48.7 million player option with the Los Angeles Clippers, which would need to be exercised in order for him to be traded to the Warriors. The Warriors would then sign George to an extension to get him to his desired four-year deal.

The Warriors were similarly aggressive at the trade deadline when they explored a deal with the Los Angeles Lakers for LeBron James

Golden State is believed to have an edge in their pursuit of George over East Coast teams with cap space such as the Philadelphia 76ers and Orlando Magic due to their proximity to his home in Los Angeles. The Clippers, however, would have to participate in a deal to get George to the Warriors and they will require significant trade compensation.

The Warriors have the $30 million expiring contract of Chris Paul to use in a trade, which has a Friday guarantee deadline. Golden State will not retain Paul on that contract unless it is for a trade possibility.
