Pelicans Acquire Dejounte Murray From Hawks For Larry Nance Jr., Dyson Daniels, Two First Round Picks

The New Orleans Pelicans have acquired Dejounte Murray from the Atlanta Hawks for two first round picks, Larry Nance Jr. and Dyson Daniels.
The Pelicans will send the Los Angeles Lakers' first round pick in 2025, plus the least favorable 2027 first round pick between the Pelicans and the Milwaukee Bucks.

Wow. Crazy to think a better offer wasn’t on the table. McCollum’s job just got a lot easier and the West just got that much more brutal… and they still have Ingram to trade if they choose.

CJ is a 2 guard but i can see CJ getting moved to GS for Klay. Pels might want Trayce too tho since CJ is better than Klay at this stage of his career

CJ may be worse at defence than Steph. Can't see them playing together

I would guess CJ will start and then he and Murray will be staggered. But there are many things that CJ is better at than Trae:
Defense: CJ is not elite unless he's being compared to Trae... But he is far better than people think. NOP had a top 10 defense last season; ATL was bottom 5. CJ's DRtg was 8.7 points better than Trae's last season. (His ORtg was just 0.3 points lower than Trae's!)
Offense: Obviously, Trae is Trae. But CJ ranks higher in a lot of basic
and advanced metrics. FG%, 3P%, TS%, eFG%, AST/TO, WS, etc. More importantly, CJ is good in some areas that Trae is severely deficient... moving without the ball and being a willing spot-up shooter.
The bottom line is, I think it will work great. CJ and Murray are an ideal 3a & 3b, particularly when paired with the great 3&D players on the NOP roster... and NOP might not be done moving players. We will see what the roster looks like in October.

Helps the Warriors start the rebuild because there is no way a CJ / Steph backcourt is going anywhere. Steph asks for a trade immediately after.
