Paul George To Meet With Clippers, Sixers, Magic When Free Agency Opens

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Jun 29, 2024 11:48 pm

Free agent wing Paul George will begin free agency on Sunday afternoon/evening by meeting with three different teams. George will meet with his current team, the LA Clippers, as well as the Philadelphia 76ers and Orlando Magic.

The Clippers have full Bird rights for George and can sign him to a four-year, $221.1 million contract. George could also work out an extension with the Clippers prior to the current league year ending at midnight on July 1. In a new deal with LA, George could get a no-trade clause, but he would not be eligible for one by extending with the Clippers.

The Philadelphia 76ers and Orlando Magic would both be suitors for George using their cap space. Both teams are in position to offer George a four-year maximum deal worth $212.2 million.

I think Orlando is going to prioritise getting a Point Guard. PG is heading to Philly. He is only using Orlando for leverage and ensure he gets the max.

He's 35, is he still asking for a 4 or 5 year deal? That contract could end up an anchor as he approaches 40...

That said yeah all of the suitors can/should be used as leverage if his agents know what they are doing. He might just sign the best FA offer(or sign and trade) he gets, but I think there's still a good chance he ends up staying with the Clips at a discounted rate or for fewer years compared to other offers so he can remain home in SoCal - apparently his parents go to all the Clip games and staying in LA or close by on the west coast is a big deal for him.
