Jonas Valanciunas and the Washington Wizards have agreed to a three-year, $30 million deal.

Valanciunas averaged 12.2 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 23.5 minutes over 82 games last season with the New Orleans Pelicans. Valanciunas spent the past three seasons with the Pelicans.

Jonas is definitely worth more than 10 mil a year. The fit does not even make sense. Sold himself short with this one. Wizards are just awful.

He came at a cheap price but the Wizards should be looking at young guys or bad contract tank commanders, not middling veterans. They need to stay all-in on the 2025 tankathon.

Maybe they just want some interior beef and/or veteran mentorship next to Sarr, he'll probably some need time to develop.

why does he sign a deal the minute free agency is on? i bet many contending teams would sign him once their situations are more or loess sorted with bigger names.

He has the worst agent in the league. Well, either him or Kevon Looney assuming it’s not the same person. Those guys have left at least 80-100M each on the table over the course of their careers.

Signing on such a terrible team means another likely relocation for an incredibly low maintenance athlete, partway through this deal.

I promise you, his agent talked with all 30 teams.

The 3/45 he signed a few years back was even worse. I tell my son all the time, "It's just math. Someone has to be first [have the best agent] and someone has to be last [have the worst agent]."
