Klay Thompson chose to sign with the Dallas Mavericks despite the Los Angeles Lakers offering more money and more years. Thompson agreed to join the Mavericks on a three-year, $50 million deal.

"The Lakers were offering more money per year and for a longer term," said Tim MacMahon on the Hoop Collective podcast.

"By the way, where were the Lakers getting that money?" replied Brian Windhorst.

"Obviously, they were trying to dump salaries," said MacMahon.

"Because I see two salary dump trades the Dallas Mavericks made. I see no salary dump trades the Lakers have made," said Windhorst.

"But you also know they were telling Klay, 'We can get to this number.' Whether they could or couldn't, they didn't. And they don't need to, at least right now immediately."

This isn’t making sense.

Either way, last year was a fluke year for the Mavs. Klay has a better shot at winning the title with the Lakers. He would’ve made more money and had more guaranteed years. LA is also home. He made the wrong choice.

This is such an indictment on how players feel about the Lakers' potential for success in the short-term. Between this and Coach Hurley backing out, it's been an embarrassing summer for their front office. I would be very depressed if I were a fan of this team

lol if you really think the lakers have a better shot then the mavs then we got bigger fish to fry lol when y’all gonna realize lebron tryna find somebody to make the scapegoat next year when they have a hard time making 5th seed. He ain’t gonna blame Jj cause that’s his pick. He ain’t gonna blame bronny cause bronny won’t be playing more than 10 mins a game. He won’t blame AD cause he know AD one more lebron making it all about him moment before he demands a trade lol. Nobody wants to be apart of the lebron circus no matter how attractive lakers might seem like

Why leave out the fact that their offer was contingent on a sign and trade which would have sent D-Lo to the warriors? The warriors declined the offer.

Not everyone wants to work in a circus like environment. Lakers are not contenders.

Noone wanted to play with Kobe.. Dwight left never wanted to be there.. Shaq gone.. Even when Kobe retired they got mozgov and Deng its nothing to do with Lebron who got AD to want to go there and westbrick which admittedly westbrick is the clown show. klay picked dallas thats his choice.. Luka is definitely the younger star in his prime I still cant see dallas winning a title without another piece though but klay should help with the offence that struggled against boston opening the floor more for Kyrie who was really shut down.

It is pretty easy.

Klay believes he can play 3 more productive seasons.

LeBron is half of what he was by then. Luka is better than he is now then. Why the confusion?

LeBron is LeDone as he is human even if he takes all the HGH in the world he cannot play until he is 50!

They wanted to dump D-Lo's contract on the Warriors.

Mavs are better than the Lakers - seems like an easy choice for Klay.
