Rookie forward Pacome Dadiet agreed to sign with the New York Knicks for 80% of his rookie scale amount. Players picked in the first round are eligible to sign for at least 80% and up to 120% of the rookie scale. Most players sign for 120% of the scale amount.

Dadiet may have gotten a promise from the Knicks that he would be drafted in the first round, if he took less than the scale amount. This will result in over $900 thousand in in savings for New York. That amount is significant, as the Knicks are trying to create as much wiggle room as possible to say below the tax aprons.

Reports are that Dadiet also paid a buyout to come to the NBA this season.

I would storm out of the negotiations like you're trying to only pay me 55th pick type money?

I'm 99.9% sure they'll find a way to give him "benefits" to offset the pay.

Seems like the difference is being used for a buyout with his current team.

"The Knicks are getting Dadiet at a relative bargain, at least when it comes to his upcoming rookie season: Begley notes that the Knicks signed Dadiet to 80 percent of the rookie scale though the extra money would instead go toward an $850,000 buyout to Ratiopharm Ulm, the German club that hosted the rookie's most recent affairs.

Fred Katz of The Athletic noted that Dadiet is the first rookie to sign for 80 percent of the rookie scale since Kevin Porter Jr. in 2019. Another report from Katz states that Dadiet will make 120 percent of the rookie scale over the next seasons after this one."
