The Brooklyn Nets initiated a rebuild when they traded away Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks while also converting future first round picks from the Phoenix Suns into their own, which increases their incentives to do so.

"This build, do I think it's going to take time? I mean, I think we'll be strategic in it," Marks said Monday.

"But I do think being in this market, with this amount of draft assets, we've done it before. And so again, I think, not that it's going to be expedited by any means, but I don't think it's a long process, either."

The Nets received the Knicks' first-round picks in 2025, 2027, 2029 and 2031, the right to swap first-round picks in 2028, a first-round pick from Milwaukee next year and a second-round pick in 2025. 

"I think you have to look yourself in the mirror as an organization and sort of say what's the best path for us moving forward here, and how do we do this and how do we have that sustainable success that we want," Marks said. "So when you're able to [add] that amount of draft assets over the course of the last year, I think that's going to help us in our trajectory long term."

"Substantial" is a big word. These are both one-way players. DFS is a nice defender but a non-factor on the other end. Cam is one of the worst defenders in the NBA. He puts up numbers on the other end but he gives them all back and more. I don't think either of these guys would start on a contender. Maybe a 1st but most likely a couple of 2nds.

Both could likely fetch a late 1st, Cam maybe two or a mid 1st. Not really 'substantial' draft assets--average outcome on a couple late 1sts isn't great--but it could help if they have other avenues.

While it's not great to hear a GM talking like this, basically admitting they're not going to be good in the immediate future, as a Bulls fan, I've been waiting some years for a GM to say something like this....

.348 last season, .355 for his career. Last season he was 174th out of 224 qualified players. (qualified player = 2 or more 3PA's) He averaged .422 overall and only attempted 2.6 2PT which tells you that if you double off him, he isn't a threat to cut. That's good enough to be a 5th starter on a good team, assuming the other starters are threats on offense. He might be over-hyped enough to bring back a couple of late 1sts, or lesser of this or that... but those shooting splits are almost identical to Jae Crowder last season. Jae was actually .001% better in both areas and .005% better in FT%. Uncanny comp... and not great company!

I see Cam as the lesser valuable of the two, at least to a good team, but you're probably right. People like those 20+ PPG scorers. I definitely see him as a 6th man on a good team. Undersized, low AST, poor defender, low efficiency, high volume shooter. He would also make a great tank commander right where he's at!

Sean Marks should not be allowed to be the GM for the rebuild Hes dismantled this team Its going to be 10 year until they might be good
