Jamal Murray and the Denver Nuggets have made some progress on a contract extension. For now, Murray and Denver have put those discussions aside to allow the star guard to focus on the upcoming Paris Olympics.

Murray is competing for Canada on the senior level for the first time. He's missed previous competitions due to injury. Canada is considered a favorite to medal at the Olympics for the first time since winning a silver medal in 1936.

The Nuggets guard is eligible to sign a four-year, $207.8 million extension this offseason. Murray could delay signing in hopes of making an All-NBA next season. If he did that, Murray would be eligible to sign a new five-year deal worth a projected $313.9 million.

I would love for him to make All-NBA but we already know the players who are making All-NBA.

Injuries happen in the NBA, and a misfortune like could mean well for Jamal

He's a postseason assassin, no doubt. But over 82 games, of which he might play 60, he's just aiiiight.

I think Murray is a real long shot for an All-Star selection, let alone an All-NBA team. The guards clearly ahead of Jamal IMO next season are:

Luka
Shai
Haliburton
Mitchell
Brunson
Booker
Edwards
Brown

Then, older guards like Steph and Kyrie may still put up a fight, Ja will be back with a vengeance, even Trae and De'Aaron could have better regular seasons.

All this to say, I think it would be risky for Jamal to delay extending to try for the All-NBA supermax bump, based on injury history and just the numbers game.

Winning usually guarantees all star and all nba selections. So long as the Nuggets keep winning he's a lock for all star selections no matter who's better than him on papaer
