Killian Hayes has agreed to a one-year deal with the Brooklyn Nets where he will have a chance to win a spot on their regular season roster. Hayes, who is represented by David Bauman and Yann Balikouzou, was the seventh overall pick in the 2020 draft out of Ratiopharm Ulm by the Detroit Pistons.

In 42 games last season with the Pistons, Hayes averaged 6.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4.9 assists in 24.0 minutes. The Pistons waived Hayes as the trade deadline and he did not resurface on another team for the remainder of the season.

With the Nets entering a rebuild, they will continue to look at second draft players like Hayes as they have with Dennis Smith Jr.

It's hard to move from one tanking team to another and prove that you have something to contribute to a winner. I think a team like PHX (many shooters/no PG) could have used this guy. They have no one on their bench that's going to get that AST.

Uh Monte Morris is 100000x better than Killian Hayes lmao

The former lottery pick will have three weeks in October to prove himself worthy of a roster spot over Keon Johnson and/or Jalen Wilson. Killian might be better served with a couple of years playing overseas and trying to build his game up.

For a team looking to tank, Hayes is one of the better options.

Nobody would dispute that, although the Suns are still looking for another point guard. They might have their sights on Tyus Jones.

Well, my point wasn't Monte vs. Killian. I actually forgot PHX signed Monte Morris, but I'll go ahead and dispute that anyway. I like Monte Morris, but he isn't 100000x better than anyone. Monte is probably better than Killian Hayes is today, but Monte is also a 29YO, undersized PG. He has proven that he is an adequate backup PG in a limited role. We know exactly what he is.

My original point was that Hayes (a 23YO, 6-5, former #7 pick) has spent the first four years of his career on a tanking team surrounded by G-league talent. He could not have come into the league in a worse situation and somehow he finds himself on a new team trying to lose, where he will.... "have a chance to win a spot."

If Killian wanted to show that he can play in this league he should have found a bench role on a contender, rather than a bench role on what will potentially be the worst team in the NBA and already has three PG's on the roster. We don't know how good Killian can be and we won't find out this season. He needs to fire his agent.
