Warriors Remain Unwilling To Trade Brandin Podziemski In Lauri Markkanen Deal

The Golden State Warriors are still unwilling to part ways with Brandin Podziemski in a deal for Lauri Markkanen, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line.

The Warriors have yet to include either Podziemski or Jonathan Kuminga in any deal for Markkanen. The team's rumored trade packages have included Moses Moody and draft compensation.

Markannen is eligible to renegotiate his contract on Tuesday.

With Markannen unable to be traded six months after signing an extension, he would not be eligible for a trade during the 2024-25 season should he sign an extension starting on Wednesday.

You might overrating Markkanen a little bit. For the bulk of his career he has played below expectations on bad teams. He is now a one-time all-star on a bad team. He had one winning season in CLE where he was the 4th or 5th option. It really isn't about the players UTH wants included in the deal. It's about the players AND the picks. I'm sure Mike D. is saying that they can't have all the picks AND the players of their choice. Picks or players, but not both.

Ainge has been known to destroy the opposition in trades. He probably leaked this out himself. I'm proud of Mike D. for standing firm.

So Podziemski is this years version of Terrance Mann, well we see how that turned out for the clippers....

I second your opinion. What does MD expect in this trade? So he wants to take the team best player for bag of chips, as if people are stupid. It is a lost for the Jazz, even if the Warriors finally decide to include Podziemski in the trade. Unless they attach 3 first and pick swaps in that deal. I do not understand why the warriors pick that guy as GM with no experience whatsoever.

Say what you will about Mike Dunleavy and Danny Ainge, but Moody plus draft compensation is obviously not enough to get a deal done. Warriors fans justifying it as "either players or picks but not both" can get used to not getting the deal done.

Because the Timberwolves gave up so much for Gobert, it really made the asking prices for everyone jump where everyone wants a minimum of 2FRPs for their players. The Bulls for the longest time wanted 2 FRPs for Caruso which was crazy talk.

With that said though, while both Moody and Podziemski have potential, the Warriors are in a tough spot here. They are a mid team atm and with all the salaries they have, they are basically stuck there for the next 3 years without any moves. I just don't see Curry settling for staying a mid team for 3 years while he continues to get older. They are either going to have to decide to blow it up and get some assets, including looking to trade Curry, or they are going to have to make a trade like the one for Markkanen to get them closer to contending again.

Podziemski is the guy who sent Klay to the bench to the point GSW wasn't even serious about retaining Klay at all. Of course Markkanen is the more proven player, but I think it's hard to give up on the guy you penned in for at at least the next few years.

Not a GSW fan... When I say "either players or picks but not both", I mean, not all the picks. If you want Pod instead of Moody you need to take one less pick.

CLE acquired Markkanen for Larry Nance Jr. and a conditional 2nd.
UTH acquired Markkanen, Sexton, Agbaji, three 1st and two swaps for Donovan Mitchell.

Now UTH wants him to be the Donovan Mitchell in this trade.... that would be a tremendous fail on the part of GSW. Markkanen is the best player on a lottery team. He is good but not full-package good.

You left the part out where BP went back the bench 'cause he sucked as a starter...

Nah think he's rated appropriately and we're overrating picks that are never a sure thing + BP

1) is a versatile big
2) has improved every year
3) is entering his prime
4) would fit in well with GSW
5) averaged 25 & 9 on 48% fg and about 40% from 3
6) GSW should be in win-now mode as long as Steph & Dray remain on the roster. Read the room Mike Dunleavy Jr.! :banghead:

Warriors are overrating BP + picks. If a team is a playoff team (which they should be trying to build in win now mode with Curry & Draymond for the next 2 years), then the picks don't matter as much. BP is a role player, Moody is a role player. These guys both have low ceilings. These players are easily replaceable and future late round draft picks aren't any guarantee. The Warriors are thinking like a small market "we're crossing our fingers and building for the fuuuuuutre / hoooopefully......" team. And they're going to get that. Lottery team mentality. They have a chance to get a win-now all-star big while keeping any type of value (Steph, Draymond, Kuminga). This is a no brainer trade for the GSW.

It's the fingers crossed / maybe philosophy vs win-now philosophy. If the Warriors aren't trying to win now for Steph & Dray, then blow this mfer up.

I remember when a few posters poked fun at the Sixers for not wanting to include Maxey in a deal for Harden when he was on his way out of Houston. This will be cool to revisit in a few years

Markkanen is a Siakam level player, the difference being that Markkanen just got there and Siakam has proven it for a while. IND just got Siakam for three 1sts and matching salary, a wildly overpaid Bruce brown and scrubs.... and most people thought IND overpaid.

Meanwhile, Pod was an important part of the GSW rotation. 5th in MPG. 5th in PPG. 4th in AST. 2nd in REB. He isn't Jordan, but giving up a rotation player is tougher than giving up a pick. It's someone that is useful today, for the winning you talk about. It means you are upgrading your roster rather than adding to your roster, and those are two very different things.

It is odd that Ainge is willing to keep Lauri and hurt his odds at a top pick. But he's way too stubborn to take less than he's asking and he's obviously hoping to pick up another player that can get good looking but empty stats to trade down the line.

What is Mike Dunleavy thinking? I hope Danny Ainge just hangs up on him.

You think Ainge should give the warriors a discount come on.. Lauri right now is on a great contract and is seen a Allstar level player that can help many teams.. The fact the warriors are holding this up over one maybe decentish player means they dont really want to do the deal.

Siakim cant shoot and Lauri 20mil salary this year will keep GSW out of the luxury tax which is good and gives them the oppurtunity to reset while still trying to contend. I think lauri is a little overrated right now but holding the deal up on pod is ridicolous by Mike gsw are done and thats ok too..

Podz didn't suck as a starter. He was the same guy except he was not consistently hitting spot up 3's. His defense, rebounding and playmaking remained the same. Warriors record was 17-11 with Podz starting, 23-21 with him off the bench. Kerr brought Klay back because his shot came back, a move which made a lot of sense on several levels.

Podz is a special player. I think he will never score in a high enough volume to be a star but he will be a high impact player for a long time. This is why Ainge wants him and why the Warriors are unwilling to let him go. Both are smart to value him highly.

Utah has never said just adding BP would be enough for them to accept the trade either. You think Ainge is going to sign off on a trade unless it involves a total fleecing of GS?
