NBA Was Surprised By Strength Of NBC's Offer Financially, Multiple Primetime Windows
The NBA was surprised by the strength of NBC's interest in acquiring media rights, sources tell The Athletic. The $27 billion deal over 11 years ($2.45 billion a season) is larger than the $22 billion the NFL receives from NBA for the same length of time. The offer is worth considerably more than TNT's best offer of slightly more than $2 billion per year.
NBC also made available to the NBA two prime-time windows and not just "Sunday Night Basketball" with Tuesday being added to their rotation throughout the season.
NBC will have Tuesday night national games where the East and West coast will receive different games that begin in prime time locally. All the matchups will be available via Peacock, which also will have exclusive games on Mondays.
