Jalen Brunson discussed his decision to take a potential $113 million discount on his extension with the New York Knicks. Brunson signed a four-year, $156.5 million extension as opposed to a five-year, $269 million deal in the 2025 offseason.

"This is literally just the beginning," Brunson said Thursday.

"I think about every decision that I make and I'm completely comfortable with what I've done," Brunson said.

"Obviously I'm well off, myself and my family, we're obviously well off, so that's first and foremost. But I want to win. I want to win here."

Brunson finished fifth in MVP voting this past season.

can we stop talking about brunson taking a 113 Mio discount? He makes 39 Mio per year now compared to 54 Mio He couldve gotten. He is losing 15 Mio per year or 60 Mio over 4 years.then He will sign a New contract which likely is more than what He gets now, so at least the "5th" year cannot be Counted as a discount.

Right. Context doesn’t seem to exist in sports media. 39m isn’t much different than 54m when your already worth hundreds of millions just barely tapping into your prime

Absolutely terrible take

If that were remotely true ("39m isn’t much different than 54m when your already worth hundreds of millions") this wouldn't be a story (a prime age max player taking well below the max)

Hundreds of players have gone the other direction compared to-- who Harden? "Accidently" leaving money on the table with Morey.

He's a small guy by NBA standards. Maybe he can't carry any more bags then this.

Yeah, right. Paul George was absolutely fine and didn't feel disrespected getting a slightly lesser offer than Kawhi. Players trying to squeeze every dollar for their new contract is totally uncommon.

Well money is money so of course players are going to take as much as they can get. But that still doesn’t change the fact that 39m isn’t much different then 54m especially when your getting plenty of endorsements on the side and already made your money in the league. To me and you yes that’s a lot of money but to an already established star trying to build a contender, that’s merely settling for Culver’s when you planned on eating 5 guys

Feels like too many are questioning his decision. It's his call to take on a small risk financially in order to benefit the team but instead of praising him, they instead want him to be selfish to encourage that attitude. Please take note.

They've always been getting endorsements in this millenium

And RE: 54M vs 39M .... remember we've had >20% inflation in <5 years so 54M is closer to 42M in buying power, real estate for multimillionaires is no exception
